Stone – the perfect blend of local and cloud storage

One filespace for everything you and your team create. It mounts on your desktop and feels like a local hard drive — and instantly streams changes to your teammates in real time.

  • InstantEvery change, on every desk, in milliseconds.
  • InfiniteEvery version of every file, kept forever.
  • FlexibleMac, Linux, containers — even your own bucket.
  • AffordableDeduplicated: you pay for unique data only.
Why studios switch

One filespace. Zero compromises.

A global Dropbox-class service and a premium, customizable business file server — the same mount, seamlessly usable from the office, home and on the road.

Instant playback

Open a 100 GB master and scrub it immediately. Stone streams the bytes you touch — nothing downloads up front.

Dedup that pays you back

Identical chunks are stored once across your whole team. Your bill tracks unique data — costs fall as more people join a project.

Instant metadata, everywhere

Rename a folder in Oslo; it renames in the same breath in LA. Every connected client sees every change, live.

Watch anything

Subscribe to a file or a folder and get notified the instant it changes — perfect for hand-offs, ingest and render pipelines.

Four temperatures, one path

Hot, standard, archive and long-term tiers live in the same filespace. Last year's delivery cools off automatically — same folder, smaller bill.

Bring your own bucket

Point Stone at your S3-compatible storage — any region, any provider, or on-prem. Your bytes, your account, our brains.

Every platform that matters

Native macOS drive, first-class Linux client and container mounts for pipelines. Windows is on the bench, warming up.

Total recall

Every mutation is kept, down to nanosecond granularity. Rewind any folder to any moment — no snapshots needed.

Developed by makers — for creators

Built for the way you create.

Editors, photographers, musicians, film producers, animators, architects — anyone moving serious amounts of media across many hands. Sharing is instant; containers and the open API turn the filespace into a pipeline.

How it works

A drive on your desk.
Bedrock in the cloud.

Finder, your DAW, your NLE — they all see an ordinary disk. Behind it, every file is split into chunks — small, immutable pieces, each with a unique fingerprint. Like pebbles on a shore, no two are alike, and together they make up every file in the filespace.

glacier_scene_04.mov 86 GB · shot Tuesday glacier_scene_04_v2.mov 86 GB · two new elements THE BEDROCK · STORED ONCE Version 2 uploads only its two new chunks — the rest already exists. 172 GB of footage, ~87 GB stored.

1 · Drop it in

Drag an 86 GB clip onto your Stone drive. The client splits it into chunks and fingerprints each one on your machine — before a single byte moves.

2 · Only the new travels

Chunks the bedrock has already seen — from anyone on the project — never upload again. A colleague with 90% of your footage sends only the new 10%.

3 · Everywhere, instantly

The file appears on every connected mount the moment it lands. Bytes stream direct between you and storage — the brain hands out the map, never the data.

Where we're honest

Stone is young. We're in invite-only preview, our SLA starts at the Business tier, and our ecosystem is smaller than a decade-old incumbent's. We'd rather you know.

Windows is still in the oven

The Windows client is in development — “coming” means coming, not shipped. Windows-heavy shops can reach Stone through containers and the API today.

Streaming-first needs a line out

Stone streams. Folders you pin stay usable offline, but the rest of your filespace waits until you're back online. If your work is mostly off-grid, we're not your first pick — yet.

Plans

Four tiers. One filespace.
Grow into it.

Every plan includes global deduplication — you pay for unique data, not copies. As your team grows, your cost per person falls. That's a model the others can't match.
